What a horrible story! I'm sorry it happened to you, and you shouldn't have had to go through it.
As for being bothered by it, I'd like to suggest a strategy. Think of someone you know who is maybe a little younger than you, and who comes to you for advice. Imagine her telling you this story, and telling you how guilty she feels. What would you tell her?
