Yeah, that's my problem with enshrining Choice, in a nutshell: I think in a fair system a lot of our free choices would be more free. Even when you find that career that makes as much money and has benefits, it's still hard to push back against our entire society that devalues women's qualifications. (You saw the identical-CV study, right? Depressing yet validating, like so much study of sexism.)
I guess the other issue is, why the hell isn't preschool teaching valued more highly? I'm sure you're great at it, and it's very important to kids' well-being -- shouldn't that be a big enough deal to allow a person to support a family well while doing it?
